March – June 2020: research about COVID-19 in Tajikistan made possible through a grant by the German Science Journalists’ Association (WPK)
From February till April I’ve collected data on quarantined people in Tajikistan, that were released by the Ministry of Health and Social Protection of the Republic of Tajikistan.
Luckily, I was given the chance to pass the numbers to data journalist Sara Cooper. She did statistical modeling in order to estimate the number of COVID-19 cases in the country.
As of April 30, the day when Tajikistan announced the first 15 cases, Cooper wrote: “Given the model explained above, one could reasonably expect an estimated 12,803 cases of COVID-19 in Tajikistan since the beginning of February, 2020.”
